Phu Quy Island, also called Thu Island, is the most distant island district of Binh Thuan province, around 110 kilometers southeast of Phan Thiet City. Although the main island is only around 18 km2, it’s home to various beauty spots.
Visitors can enjoy a range of tourism experiences and sample the area’s diverse cuisine. The first impression of Phu Quy is one of simplicity. This dreamlike island lies in tranquil Trieu Duong Bay, which is praised for its vastness and its white sand beaches. Phu Quy’s semicircular Small Beach is famous for its picturesque beauty. Bathing in the cool water off Phu Quy Island is an unforgettable summer experience.
The island also has remarkable man-made structures that appeal to visitors, such as a national flag pole that marks Vietnam’s sovereignty. The Phu Quy Flag Pole is one of the strongest and most beautiful flag poles built on outpost islands along Vietnam’s sea borders. Apart from being a must-see spot, the flag pole is a sacred place with historical and educational significance. Next is the “eye of the island” – Phu Quy Lighthouse – built on top of Cam Mountain in Ngu Phung Commune. The lighthouse lies 108 meters above sea level and was designed as a two-story box painted in appealing contrasting light and dark colors. Among the largest lighthouses in Vietnam, it has been operating for over 25 years.
Visitors to Phu Quy Island can also experience an artistic mix of the past and present. The ancient Linh Son Temple has fulfilled islanders’ spiritual needs for over 100 years. Linh Son Temple lies peacefully near the salty sea. The sounds of the temple’s bells mingle with those of the waves and wind to create a sense of peace in this picturesque natural landscape. Linh Son Temple and Cao Cat Mountain overlook the surroundings, including nearby fishing villages, Ban Tranh Princess Temple, and the lighthouse on Cam Mountain. Notably, we can see Hon Tranh, Hon Trung, and Hon Den islands on the horizon. The views are especially mesmerizing at sunset. The Phu Quy Wind Power Project brings a modern vibe to the island. Three turbines, with a height of up to 60 meters and a diameter of more than 75 meters tower over the green grass, constituting the first wind power project in Vietnam run by a combination of wind and diesel. The Phu Quy Wind Power Project breathes new potential into Binh Thuan and serves as a beautiful background for visitors’ photos.
